The 2016 Fiat 500 has hit the streets for testing.

Last week AutoGuide.com’s spy photographers caught the face-lifted 2016 Fiat 500 sitting still in a parking garage and now the Italian automaker’s latest product has been spied undergoing testing out in the sun. Expected to make its debut at this year’s Frankfurt Motor Show, the new Cinquecento will borrow styling cues from the 500X crossover with updates to the front bumpers, headlights and fog lights. Unfortunately, both the coupe and convertible models that were spied testing still haven’t shed any of their camouflage but we do see that the 2016 Fiat 500 will retain its iconic, bubbly shape.

Along with the refresh, Fiat will likely add new color choices and wheel options to the compact 500 as well as some minor interior changes, but up to this point the company is keen on covering up the dash during testing so cabin enhancements are unknown right now. The current Fiat 500 has been around for eight years now, so a refresh is long overdue. It’s more of a surprise that Fiat isn’t readying another generation of its compact 500, but perhaps it’s avoiding development costs for the time being. Last year Fiat managed to sell 33,708 of these cars in the U.S. and through the first five months of 2015 has moved 13,107.
